Saturday Sampler

February 7, 2011

You are invited to join us on the second Saturday of each month beginning in March as we will be making the Tonga Nature pattern by Wing and a Prayer Designs.   We will continue for 10 months through the second Saturday in December.

You will have your choice of several different colorways.  (The fabric used in the pattern’s picture is not available.)

Blue/Green/Gold Batiks (Paradise by Moda)

Blues & Yellows (Nature's Notebook by Moda)

Oriental (Boutique by Moda)

Civil War (Aster Manor by Moda)

You can also choose:   Black & Whites with a touch of Red;  or Scrappy Brights.

Here’s how the program works:

  • You must register for the Saturday Sampler program before March 1st by paying $24 for the pattern and choosing your colorway.
  • On the second Saturday of each month, beginning on March 12th, we will give a short demonstration on how to make the block of the month and you will receive the fabric needed to make it for FREE!   There will be hourly demonstration times beginning at 10:00am. through 4:00 pm.
  • Go home and make the block sometime during the next month.  Bring the completed block with you to the next Saturday Sampler session and you will get the fabric for the next block for FREE!
  • If you cannot attend a Saturday Sampler session, or if you do not bring a completed block from the previous month with you, you will need to pay $5 for the fabric kit for your next block. (It can be picked up at any time during the month)
  • If you continue to make the block for each month and bring it to the next session you will get the fabric for all 9 blocks in the center of the quilt for FREE.
  • For the last Saturday Sampler session in December, you can see how to finish off the center of the quilt by adding the flying geese blocks and the zigzag borders.  If you only want to make the center of the quilt (which measures 56 x 56”) you can purchase the fabric to do so for $20.00.   Here’s a picture of the center of the quilt made in blues/yellows by Jean Buchanan, who volunteered to be my pattern tester.  (These are not the same blues/yellows pictures above.)

  • If you want to make the complete Tonga Nature pattern you have the option of purchasing a finishing kit of coordinated fabrics in the color way you have chosen: $95.00 for the queen sized quilt or $110 for the king sized quilt. (This includes the additional fabric for the center of the quilt, but not the backing fabric.) If you want a complete finishing kit you need to let us know as soon as possible, or the fabric may not be available later.

There are a few conditions:

  • Each person can only get one free kit a month.
  • You must come yourself to the Saturday Sampler sessions with your completed block in order to get your free fabric kit.  No one else can come in your place.
  • If you miss two sessions and we have not heard from you, we will assume you have dropped out of the program and your next block kits will not be prepared.
  • This quilt pattern is not difficult, but it is not recommended for beginning quilters.
  • There is a limit on the number of people that can be accepted into the Saturday Sampler program. It will be on a first come, first serve basis. So if you are interested in participating, please let us know as soon as possible by email (quiltedblessings@yahoo.com)  or coming by the shop.
